Samsung Launches Galaxy Tab 8.9 4G Tablet in Australia

SAMSUNG has won the race to have the first 4G-enabled tablet computer to market in Australia.
The Samsung Tab 8.9 4G features a smaller 8.9-inch touch screen compared to the better known Galaxy 10.1 Tab 2. However the Tab 8.9 features a fast 1.5 Gigahertz dual core processor. It weighs 470 grams.
The Tab 8.9 comes with Android’s Honeycomb 3.2 operating software and will be upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is powered by a 6,100 milliampere hour battery and has a rear-facing 3-megapixel camera with flash and front-facing 2-megapixel camera.
It is available with either 16GB or 32GB of storage and will run on Telstra’s 4G LTE network mobile.
Telstra also is releasing an extension of its 4G LTE USB modem to pre-paid customers.

“With the launch of the Telstra Pre-Paid USB 4G hundreds of thousands of Australians who rely on pay-as-you-go mobile broadband can access some of the fastest mobile internet speeds available,” said Warwick Bray, Executive Director, Telstra Mobile.
Telstra said customers using its 4G devices within 4G coverage areas could receive typical download speeds of 2-40 Megabits per second, and typical upload speeds of 1-10Mbps. The devices switched to 3G outside 4G coverage areas.
The 16 GB Galaxy Tab 8.9 is available in Telstra stores for $720 RRP outright and from partner stores such as JB Hi-Fi, Fone Zone, and Retravision from today. The 32GB version costs $840 RRP. Both versions are available on 24-month Talstra plans.
The Pre-Paid USB 4G dongle costs $129 and comes with 3GB of data in Australia, usable for 30 days.
The launch of the Telstra Pre-Paid USB 4G and Galaxy Tab 8.9 4G follows last month’s launch of the HTC Velocity 4G smartphone and the Telstra USB 4G for post-paid customers in September last year.
