Leading mobile phone provider, Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its "Affordable Smartphone" duo - Samsung Galaxy 3 and Samsung Galaxy 5 in the Indian market. The launch of these two smartphones closely follows the recent introduction of the company's iconic, next generation, 'Future Beyond Smart Phones', Samsung Wave and Galaxy S - in the Indian market. Both Samsung Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 are based on the Android platform and offer an intuitive, immersive and integrative experience for consumers.

Announcing the launch Ranjit Yadav, Director, Mobile & IT, Samsung Electronics said: "The smartphone era has begun and is here to stay. We, at Samsung, are committed to making smartphones available for everyone. We have been focusing on Open OS mobiles recently since many key characteristics of smartphones are becoming more and more relevant - especially mobile internet, messaging features, strong third party applications and flexibility for customization. In the open OS area, our strategy is to offer consumers with whatever they want. As a result we are offering mobiles based on the Android, Windows and our own proprietary OS bada in the Indian market." Thus, while Samsung WAVE is based on the bada platform, the Galaxy S is based on the Android platform.

Samsung Galaxy 3 and Samsung Galaxy 5 are highly user-centric and boast of features that provide an intuitive and immersive experience for consumers. Some the key common features and applications include:

Layar Reality Browser: Layar is an augmented reality application that shows the user what is around him/her by displaying real time digital information. Layar works by using a combination of the mobile phone's camera, GPS, compass, accelerometer and a mobile internet connection. Users can do real-time route calculation with this application, while travelling and discover places around them.

Social Hub: Integrates e-mails, contacts messages and social networks in your phonebook. Also the Social Hub provides users the freedom to communicate directly from their phonebook through SNS, e-mail, SMS/MMS. Users can also enjoy full integration of their Google, and Facebook calendars.

Google Mobile Services: Provides an easy access to the all Google services like - Gmail, Gtalk, Google Search, Google Maps. Further there over 60,000 apps on the AndroidÔ market which the consumers can choose from.

Swype: Enabled by the Swype technology, this application allows users to type message with one continuous finger motion across the screen keyboard making text inputs faster and easier. In addition to the power of Swype technology, these handsets also provide the user the option to "Write & Go" where they can input the text first and choose the format of communication later. The communication format can vary from SMS, SNS, MMS, Email, Memo or Calendar updates.

Touchwiz 3.0: The brilliant Touchwiz 3.0 interface of the Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 gives a tactile, intuitive user experience and is unique only to Samsung mobiles. Galaxy 3 lets the user to customize upto 7 home screens. While the directional swipes provide shortcuts for easier navigation, the advanced interactive mobile widgets further heighten the smartphone experience.

In addition both Samsung Galaxy 3 (I5801) & Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5503) enjoy powerful connectivity through ALLSHARE. With the ALLSHARE feature users can share Multimedia content between devices like the mobile and the PC as well as the TV. The phones can also function as TV QWERTY remote.

The handset offers excellent connectivity options through Bluetooth 2.1 to connect to other device and mobile peripherals helping easy file transfers and data downloads. The phone also has wifi connectivity, 3G HSDPA with speeds up to 7.2 mbps, 3.5 mm Ear jack, FM radio and A-GPS. The 90 MB internal of the phone memory is further upgradeable to 16GB. The Samsung Galaxy 5 (I5503) is priced at Rs. 10,200/-

With the launch of these two smartphones, Samsung's smartphone portfolio now boasts of 4 feature-rich models at a price range of Rs.10,200 - Rs.31,500."By the end of 2010, we plan to a have a portfolio of 8-9 smartphone models and expect to notch up a 20% market share in the smartphone market" stated Mr. Yadav.

With product innovation being a key thrust area of the company, Samsung today also announced the launch of Samsung Guru Power with a Long Battery Life of 2,000mAh providing a whopping 22 hours Talk Time and 2 months standby time priced at Rs 3150/- and Samsung Champ, an affordable touch phone that builds in the feature functionality of a Music player priced at Rs 4500/-.
